Austin is a vibrant city with no shortage of venues to celebrate your kid’s birthday party. When my family and I first moved to Austin I struggled to find a place that would fit my budget and keep the kids entertained, so I know, first hand, how stressful it can be to plan a birthday event. Fortunately, Austin has an incredible variety of options to choose from. From local party vendors, trampoline parks, and outdoor adventures, there is no shortage of unique options to choose from. Below, I’ve compiled a list of 10 venues my kids and I enjoy the most. Hopefully this will save you a bit of time and lots of headache 😊. Let’s get started!
13. Main Event

Age Range Recommendation: 5+ years old
While Main Event made it onto my top 10 list, there were a couple of issues that prevented it from ranking higher, which I’ll detail below. My kids and I have visited this venue on numerous occasions and despite having a great time, one major drawback we noticed was the lack of cleanliness. From sticky game consoles to trash littering the corners, it became clear that cleanliness wasn’t a top priority here. Pro tip – keep a stash of sanitizing wipes handy. You’re going to need them.
There’s no denying that Main Event is a big venue. It is filled with a diverse range of entertainment options for kids and adults alike. From bowling lanes and arcade games to laser tag and a gravity ropes course, there’s little chance of your little one not being thoroughly entertained here.
Another point of contention for us was the food service. Although the menu offers a variety of options, from pizza to burgers, the wait times were just a little too long. This could pose a problem, especially when dealing with hungry kids after a long day of play. After a while, the wait started to take away from the overall experience, and it’s something I believe they should address.
Despite these issues, Main Event Austin still holds a spot on my list, primarily for the sheer variety of entertainment options it provides. It’s a place that promises a fun-filled day for kids, making it a considerable option for a birthday venue in Austin. Below, I’ve even jotted down a quick breakdown of the birthday packages they offer and a ballpark figure of what you might have to shell out per kid.
- All you can play: This package costs $11.99 per guest and includes a 2 hour “all you can play” pass, a $10 Fun Card for each guest, and 500 points for the birthday girl/boy.
- Birthday your way: This package starts at $15.99 per guest and includes one activity (Bowling, Laster Tag, etc.), $5 for each additional activity for up to 3 in total, $10 fun card for reach guest, 500 points for the birthday girl/boy, unlimited fountain drinks, a dedicated party host, reserved seating, and online party invitations.

12. The Dinosaur Park

Age Range Recommendation: between 3 and 7 years old
Roaring its way into the 12th spot, The Danosaur Park in Bastrop, TX, is a fun and wallet-friendly choice for an outdoor birthday dinosaur museum – if you don’t mind the drive. What’s unique about this park is its life-sized dinosaur replicas, which are both fun and educational, especially for children fascinated by these prehistoric creatures. The nature trail offers an enjoyable day of exploration, and you can even bring your dog, provided it weighs under 30 pounds. The park also features several playgrounds and a sandbox, where kids can dig for fossils. However, my kids often spend most of their time in the gift store, no surprise, which is packed with really cool dinosaur toys.
Regarding their birthday packages, they offer a 2-hour rental of their covered pavilion/picnic tables. The reservation costs only $40 for 2 hours, with the option to extend at $20 for each additional hour. It’s important to book extended time in advance, as failing to do so will incur a $20 fee for every 15 minutes over.
Note that the pavilion can only be reserved for a minimum of 7 children, costing $10 per child. For parties of 15 or more children, the cost per child is reduced to $9.00. The park allows you to bring your own food, pastries, and decorative items, but alcoholic beverages are prohibited. So, for a party of 12 kids, you’re looking at an average expense of $140 plus food.
11. Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park

If your children enjoy jumping and bouncing as much as mine do, Urban Air is the ideal destination for them. With three locations to choose from – Bee Cave, Cedar Park, and one in South Austin – it provides a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages. From trampoline basketball and dodgeball to a foam pit, there’s something for everyone. We often visit the Bee Cave location, which is their newest facility. However, before it was built, I used to take my kids to the Cedar Park location. The drive to both locations is roughly the same for us, but we particularly like going to Bee Cave because it features indoor skydiving, something their Cedar Park location does not offer.
Urban Air is a popular birthday destination, and for the right reasons. It offers a convenient, hassle free service and plenty to keep the kids busy. Being a popular birthday destination also means that it’s usually jam-packed on the weekends so you may want to plan ahead and book a table or a private room for your birthday.
You can choose from three packages.
- The Ultimate package starts at $425 and accommodates up to 10 guests, featuring all of the park’s main attractions, such as the sky rider, ropes course, climbing wall, VR, and more.
- The Deluxe package starts at $319 but does not include the sky rider, ropes course, climbing wall, or VR.
- For a more budget-friendly option, the Basic package costs $269 but you only get access to the trampolines and nothing else.
After choosing a package you also have the option to either reserve a private room for an extra $50 or reserve a basic table which is included in the total price of the package. A private room comes with 2 large one-topping pizzas and a party host. If you want to add more kids to the invite, you’ll pay $27.99 plus tax per person. A party for 12 children with a private room, Deluxe package, and three large pizzas, will cost you around $595.68 plus tax for a 2-hour event, around $50 per child.

10. Austin Zoo

The Austin Zoo is a really unique option for a birthday party, and the best thing about the zoo is that it’s a non-profit zoo dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating exotic and native animals. The zoo spans 16 acres and is home to over 300 animals from more than 100 species. The zoo offers various designated party areas, ranging from shaded picnic areas with picnic tables and benches to indoor spaces with air conditioning to keep everyone cool during the hot Texas summers. All party areas can be decorated to fit the theme of your child’s celebration, ensuring a memorable and personalized experience. One of the highlights of hosting a birthday party at the Austin Zoo is the opportunity for children to get up close and personal with a wide array of animals. From lions and tigers to monkeys and parrots, the zoo provides an immersive and educational experience for children of all ages. Additionally, the zoo offers train rides, which my kids absolutely love and we always enjoy a ride around the park when we’re there. The train tickets are reasonable priced and the train runs every half hour.
Austin Zoo offers three birthday packages all of which include a 2 hour venue time slot, an animal experience presentation, 20 admission tickets, 20 goodie bags at a value of $5 each, and 10 animal feed bags.
– The Events Pavilion Package is priced at $625
– The Primate Pavilion Package is $550
– And the Peacock Barn Package is also $550
If you’re inviting more than 20 guests, you can purchase an additional ticket for $9.95 per person. Keep in mind that Austin Zoo does not provide decorations or food so you’ll have to provide your own decor and food. They do have a few charcoal grills which you can rent for $10, so that’s an option.
9. Kalahari

Kalahari is truly a hidden gem. If you don’t mind splurging on your child’s birthday party, Kalahari offers a fantastic experience for everyone. The indoor water park, complete with exhilarating water slides and a lazy river, along with the arcade and bowling alley, ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Every time we visit Kalahari, my two boys are thoroughly entertained, making it feel like a mini staycation.
As a parent, safety is my top priority, especially with my adventurous 2-year-old. I was pleased to see that Kalahari is committed to ensuring guest safety. The well-trained lifeguards and attentive staff members made certain our party went smoothly. Additionally, the facility is kept impeccably clean, allowing me to feel comfortable knowing my children were playing in a sanitary environment.
The dining options at Kalahari also exceeded my expectations. The on-site restaurants cater to various dietary restrictions and preferences, making it a breeze to accommodate all our party guests. Kalahari’s dedication to customer service sets it apart from other venues in Austin. From the moment we arrived, the staff went the extra mile to make sure our party was seamless and stress-free. They were attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making our celebration memorable. The only downside to Kalahari are the lengthy wait times for their more popular water slides.
Kalahari offers multiple Birthday Packages. Their most affordable package, “Kenya’s Water Party,” starts at $750 and includes up to 10 guests, with 10 waterpark bands, a jumbo slice of pizza, and a soda for each guest. The “Kenya’s Cabana Party” package begins at $1,100 and covers up to 10 guests, providing 10 waterpark bands, a private sun deck cabana, and a jumbo slice of pizza with a soda for each guest. Lastly, the “Tom’s & Kenya’s BIG Adventure” package starts at $1,250 and accommodates up to 10 guests, offering waterpark admission, a jumbo slice of pizza, and unlimited access to most attractions.
Kalahari is a great choice for any child’s birthday party in Austin. With its variety of entertainment options, commitment to safety and cleanliness, and exceptional customer service, it’s an unforgettable venue that will leave your child and their friends talking about the event for a long time. Although wait times for popular attractions can be longer, the overall experience is well worth the investment. I highly recommend Kalahari for a one-of-a-kind birthday celebration that will create lasting memories for your child and their guests.

8. Pinballz Arcade

Pinballz Arcade is another great choice for a kid’s birthday party. It’s a classic arcade experience with hundreds of retro and modern games that will keep kids entertained for hours. If your kids love to game, like mine do, this will be a fun birthday experience for them and their friends. The venue itself is spacious and has a fun and vibrant atmosphere that kids will love. The arcade is divided into different sections, each with its own unique selection of games. For example, there’s a section dedicated to classic arcade games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, as well as a section with newer games like Mario Kart and Dance Dance Revolution. Pinballz also has an impressive collection of pinball machines, which are always a hit with kids.
When it comes to booking a birthday party at Pinballz it’s important to book your party well in advance to ensure that you get the date and time slot that you want. Pinballz is a popular venue, especially for birthday parties, so it’s best to plan ahead. They have several packages to choose from but keep in mind that all packages include a private room 1.5 hours, and 2 slices of Pizza for each guest.
- The “Game Start” package costs $15.99 per person/guest and includes a $10 game card per person, private room, 2 slices of Pizza and 1 drink per person.
- Their “Power Play” package is $18.99 per person and includes a $12 game card per person, 1K tickets for the birthday boy/girl, 1.5 hour private room, 2 slices of pizza and a drink.
- The “Level Up” package is $21.99 and includes a $15 game card for each guest and 1k tickets OR a Pinballz t-shirt for the guest of honor.
- The “Super Star” package is $26.99 per person and includes a $20 game car for each guest, and 1k tickets or t-shirt, two slices of pizza per person, and one drink per person.
- The “Bonus Round” package is $31.99 per person and includes a $25 game card and everything else that’s included in the “Super Star” package.

Keep in mind that the minimum required number to reserve a party is 8 guests and all packages require a 50% nonrefundable deposit. They also provide a few extras like a kids goodie bag which costs $3.00 per bag and a corkage fee of $25 per hour which will allow you to bring your own wine or beer.

7. Sweet Eats Fruit Farm

If you don’t mind the drive and your kids love spending time outdoors, then Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is a great place to have a birthday party. The farm just underwent a major upgrade and has considerably improved since we first visited a few years back. There is no shortage of fun activities to choose from.
The farm features a petting zoo, face painting, a tire pile with a slide, pig races, a hug jump pad, and obstacle course, a pedal cart race track, and our absolute favorite, APPLE CANNONS! They make booking a birthday party really easy and hassle free, all you have to do is purchase general admission tickets for your guests, or you can choose to have the guests purchase their own tickets. The nice thing about Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is that the birthday boy/girl get in for free. Keep in mind that if you have a large group, more than 45, you’ll have to contact the Farm directly to get their large group pricing. General admission price is $20 per guest.
For groups of 15 to 45 people they’ll require a $50 reservation fee which will allow you to reserve a picnic table, and keep in mind that the birthday boy/girl gets in free as well as children under 2. Also keep in mind that you only get the picnic table for a max of 2 hours.
6. Bouldering Project

Not too long ago, my kids and I accidentally stumbled upon this place after taking my eldest to a clinic across the street. Ever since that first visit, we’ve returned to Bouldering Project on numerous occasions. This bouldering gym is really fun and clean. If your kids love climbing and being adventurous, then this might be a great place to celebrate your next birthday party. They have a designated corner of the gym specifically for children, with easy-to-navigate bouldering walls and picnic tables. I would recommend booking well in advance because they tend to book out fast. Note that they only allow birthday celebrations on Saturdays and Sundays, and at three specific designated times: 10 am to 12 pm, 1 pm to 3 pm, or 4 pm to 6 pm. You can’t book anything outside of those times and day slots. The birthday parties include climbing instruction and challenge games led by one of their staff. The maximum capacity for a party is 20 climbers, and the minimum age range is 5 to 10. They offer three packages to choose from:

If you’re searching for a memorable, fun, and educational birthday experience, then Thinkery might be the perfect choice. We hold an annual membership to Thinkery and enjoy visiting whenever we have a free weekend. We have also attended a few birthday parties at Thinkery, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thinkery features several installations that explore various aspects of learning, ranging from the physics of motion to light and sound. The second floor is excellent for toddlers as it showcases a splash area, a playpen, and a reading area, also known as the “Story Nook.” The upstairs farmers market is another favorite of ours, providing an opportunity for us to rest our legs while the kids play.
Thinkery offers an Indoor birthday package for $300, which includes a private “Kitchen Lab” party room for 60 minutes, unlimited same-day admission to the museum for 30 people, and dedicated support staff to assist with setup and cleanup. The private room can accommodate up to 30 people. However, the package does not include food or drinks.
They also offer an Outdoor birthday package which accommodates up to 50 people and includes 2 hours in their private outdoor party space, and a dedicated party support staff. This package costs $500.
4. Epic Fun

Epic Fun provides a wide range of exciting activities for children of all ages. The facility boasts an impressive selection of attractions, including laser tag, mini bowling, bumper cars, a high ropes course, and arcades. Their dedicated party rooms and customizable packages makes it easy to tailer the special occasion to your child’s preferences. Epic Fun has 4 packages to choose from. Their “Play & Pizza” package starts at $199 for up to 10 kids, reserved table in the common cafe, arcade games with 200 tickets, and 2 large pizzas with fountain drinks. Their “Quest Party” starts at $299 and includes 4 attractions for 2 hours, reserved table in the common cafe, and 2 large pizzas with fountain drinks. The “Epic Party” includes everything the other packages offer plus 2 attractions. If you have more guests joining the party it will cost you $35 per additional teen.

If you’re looking for a fun obstacle course, Austin Ninjas is an excellent choice for a birthday party venue. With its ninja warrior-inspired obstacle courses and training areas, children can challenge themselves while having a blast in a safe and supervised environment. The engaging and dynamic setting promotes physical fitness and teamwork. Austin Ninjas offers to party options, the first package “Open Gym” gives you and you’re guests (up to 20), complete access to the gym/obstacle course. If you have more than 20 guests, each additional guest is $20 up to 25 total. Keep in mind that open gym parties run during open gym so there will be other kids using the gym at the same time. Their other package “Private Parties” costs $500 and includes up to 20 guests. This package allows you to rent out the entire gym for the duration of your party. Their Austin location features 4 tables with benches and a party room, and the Cedar Park location features 2 tables with benches and a party room.
Also keep in mind that guests attending the party must wear athletic shoes, be 5 years or older with a waiver signed by a parent, and the event lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes, split between ninja training and private room time. Attendees can bring their own food (no alcohol) and table settings, while parents should stay in designated areas, and a $100 cancellation fee applies.

I am delighted to add a brand new entry, Monster Mini Golf, to my list of top birthday venues. If you don’t mind the drive, Monster Mini Golf stands as an excellent choice for your upcoming birthday celebration. This venue boasts an indoor mini golf course that glows in the dark, providing a fun and entertaining experience. The course is not overly challenging, and my 7-year-old always has a great time, particularly enjoying hole #5. Besides mini golf, the venue offers a thrilling laser tag course, a laser maze, and arcade games. The laser maze is a perennial favorite with my kids as they enjoy challenging themselves to dodge and crawl through like spies. The pricing is quite reasonable: mini golf costs $12.50 per person, a single game of laser tag is $7.00 per person, and the laser maze is priced at $3.50 per game.
Monster Mini Golf offers two birthday packages for selection. The first package caters to mini golf enthusiasts exclusively, while the second is a combo package that caters to the laser tag enthusiasts. Below is a pricing breakdown for each package.

I’m more than happy to give Dart’em the number one spot on my list of top birthday venues for kids in the Austin area. Dart’em Up is an excellen choice for a unique and unforgettable birthday party. We’ve had several birthday parties at this venue and the kids constantly ask when we can go back. As a venue dedicated solely to Nerf gun battles, Dart’em Up provides a fun and exciting environment for kids to play and have a blast with their friends. They make the entire experience easy on the parents and the owner is a top notch operator.
The venue itself is spacious and well-designed, with multiple themed arenas that provide different play experiences. For example, there’s a medieval castle arena, a space-themed arena, and a post-apocalyptic wasteland arena. Each arena has its own obstacles, barriers, and targets, which adds to the excitement and challenge of the games.
Dart’em Up has two packages to choose from.
- The Blaster Party package is $400 and includes up to 10 guests. It costs $24.95 for each additional guest. The packages include a 2 hour Dart’em Up tag experience, 45 minutes in a private room, 3 large pizzas, 3 two liter soft drinks, and access to a few arcade games with $12 cards for each guest.
- The VIP Teen Party package is $450 and accommodates up to 8 guests ages 12+. This package includes a 2 hour Dart’em Up arena experience, a t-shirt for the birthday boy/girl, 2 hours in a private party room, 4 large pizzas, 3 two liter soft drinks, and a $25 arcade game card for each guest.

While all of these options are fantastic places to host your child’s next birthday party, I’d love for your to consider my business, Backyard Starz, as a fun alternative to some of the choices listed above, perfect for kids between the age of 6 and 16 years old, although we’ve had a number adult movie nights. We offer a one-of-a-kind inflatable movie theater experience in the comfort of your own backyard. We have several packages to choose from.
Family “DIY” Package
Our “DIY” Family Package starts at $219 and includes 6 comfortable inflatable lounge chairs (you can choose from cotton candy, all pink, all teal, or grey color combinations), an outdoor 16ft movie screen, 1 outdoor speaker, a high definition outdoor movie projector, 3 side tables, blu-ray DVD player (or you can stream from your own device, laptop, ipad, apple tv, etc.). We’ll drop off our package along with detailed instructions on how to set everything up, or you have the option to include our setup & takedown service for an additional cost
Family & Friends Package
Our Family & Friends package starts at $399 and comes with 12 comfortable lounge chairs, a 17ft movie screen, 2 speakers, a high definition outdoor projector, and 6 side tables. This package comes with setup & takedown so you can simply kick back, relax, and enjoy the movie.
Party Package
For bigger groups, our “Party Package” starts at $489 and includes 18 lounge chairs, an 18ft movie screen, 2 outdoor speakers, a high definition projector, 9 side tables, setup & takedown
Flick ‘N Float Package
And for those hot summer nights, we’ve recently introduced a “Flick ‘N Float” package which starts at $325 and includes a 17ft screen, 6 pool floaties, 2 outdoor speakers, outdoor movie projector, DVD player, and setup & takedown.
